Sharleen Spiteri - The Movie Songbook

Theyve the potential to follow Biffy into the bright lights of the biggest stages.

Autechre - Oversteps

They continue to test themselves and listeners alike with stunningly intricate results.

The ex-Crash Test Dummies mans latest has an immediate yet lived-in feel.

Sugababes - Sweet 7

Sweet 7 doesnt sell the Sugababes as individuals or as a brand.

Lynden David Hall - Medicine 4 My Pain

A fine debut of unpretentious, highly personal soul.

Among the Oak & Ash - Among the Oak & Ash

The duos updating of stirring folk tales is eminently modern.

The Watson Twins - Talking to You, Talking to Me

The pair are expectedly strong of voice, but much here comprises an icy cool listen.

Brad Mehldau - Highway Rider

The pianists latest is a concept album with an odyssey-like subtext.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Symphonies 29, 31 ‘Paris’, 32, 35 ‘Haffner’ & 36 ‘Linz’ (feat. cond: Sir Charles Mackerras, orch: Scottish Chamber Orchestra)

Mackerras lavishes these magnificent works with love and commitment.

Leo Gandelman - Garrincha Estrela Solitria

As World Cup fever builds, a tribute to Brazils Coltrane of soccer.

Lou Rhodes - One Good Thing

A single-toned album that does little to differentiate its maker from many peers.

Next, the voters decided that Todrick Hall was not "Somebody to Love," despite his animated performance of the Queen classic the night before. "This has been an awesome experience," he said. "I came here to prove that I’m not just a dancer — I can also sing — and I think I did that."

Billy Corgan Reacts to John Mayer’s Sexual Comments About Jessica Simpson

Billy Corgan has some harsh words for John Mayer, following the singer/songwriter’s quips to Playboy magazine about Jessica Simpson being "sexual napalm."

As far as it pertains to her. I think for any person who has celebrity to sort of drop rocks at somebody elses feet like that — theres things you should really just keep your mouths shut on. Theres things that should just be left alone, Corgan, who is rumored to be dating Simpson, tells Rolling Stone magazine.

The Smashing Pumpkins frontman believes Mayer is trying to self destruct, telling the publication, "Rather than take a year off or change his musical direction some part of it is irritating his soul to the point where hes trying to blow it up. Certainly a talented guy, but empathetically, standing on the sidelines, its hard to watch someone literally burn their career to the ground — speaking as somebody whos done it.

March 16th, 2010

The Yardbirds played their final gig in July 1968, after which vocalist Keith Relf and drummer Jim McCarty left the band, wishing to pursue a shared interest in folk music. However, The Yardbirds were still committed to perform several concerts in Scandinavia, so McCarty and Relf authorised Page and Dreja to use the Yardbirds name to fulfil the band”s obligations. Page and Dreja began putting a new line-up together. Page”s first choice for lead singer, Terry Reid, declined the offer, but suggested a singer he knew of who played on the Birmingham scene called Robert Plant. Plant accepted the position, and also recommended John Bonham from nearby Redditch who also played regularly in Birmingham bands. Plant and Bonham had recently played in the Band of Joy together. When Dreja opted out of the project to become a photographer (he would later take the photograph that appeared on the back of Led Zeppelin”s debut album), John Paul Jones contacted Page about the empty position. Page, being familiar with his credentials, gladly accepted him as the band”s new bassist.

First and Foremost

March 15th, 2010

First and Foremost. Online Casting Companies are not employment agencies, nor are they agents, or casting companies. These sites simply put, are trying to make a happy medium between union and non union film directors who cant afford advertising. They claim they need to charge the actors to keep their sites going, and they claim they need to keep it free for the CDs because the films that do get posted on their sites, have little to no funding. They provide a service to make it easier for actors to track down auditions when they have no agent.

Amplifiers, instruments, a PA system for vocals, lighting towers all the way down to carpet for the drums need to be set up and placed and checked and moved and double checked again. Allow enough time for all of these details to be adequately addressed well before show time. Because it is not IF something goes wrong, it”s WHEN something goes wrong. And it always does with a band. Give them enough time to fix it.

We were talking about the problems I encountered after I had bought the bookstore

March 14th, 2010

We were talking about the problems I encountered after I had bought the bookstore. Well firstly, the whole bookstore was inphp with cpanel control panel, my sql and a whole lot of Greek terms. You remember I had worked with online and offline editors in wysiwyg and a little html. Well now I was lost. I was warned not to try to edit in an html editor, or I would corrupt the php. I had never used these before and couldn”t understand why I couldn”t find the pages, to edit them. Then I found that the currencies shown on the products were not compatible with the Rand, but I thought so what, I”ll just sell in dollars. Then I found that PayPal was not an option. Damn, but hey, I could still use NoChex, or the other one, I forget the name. No way, Jose, those weren”t allowed either. I had to have a banking account in USA or UK. I eventually got EGold to work, but how many people pay with gold? That bookstore is still sitting, gathering dust.

A firm favourite amongst the Idlewild faithful, and not afraid to get heavy.

Laura Marling - I Speak Because I Can

A darker tone permeates the young folk singers second album.

Libera - Peace

Nothing new from the young choral ensemble, but well timed for Mothers Day.

Carly Simon - Never Been Gone

Pleasant rather than essential, something that would be a nice tour souvenir.

General Fiasco - Buildings

A perfunctory debut album, but surely destined for the indie landfill.

Goldheart Assembly - Wolves and Thieves

Its inherent sweetness cant fail to connect with a bigger audience.

More distinguished in the Middle Ages for the cultivation of folk-music than that of the Church. Medieval England yet produced a very respectable body of theoretical writers, and to England belongs the credit of possessing the oldest piece of polyphonic and canonic composition known to be in existence, the old Northumbrian round, ‘Sumer is icumen in,’ which was transcribed by a monk of Reading called John of Fornsete, in the early years of the thirteenth century.
