March 19th, 2010

The simple fact is you are stealing if you make copies of copyrighted music recordings without authorization. If people were sued for the music they had downloaded illegally, it could result in thousands of dollars. Music copyright law states that it is illegal to duplicate and distribute creative work. If you send someone an email with a song that you have illegally downloaded on the Internet, you could be in for some serious trouble. To put it bluntly and plainly, if you download (or upload) music that is copyrighted without permission, you are breaking the law.

Billy Corgan Reacts to John Mayer’s Sexual Comments About Jessica Simpson

Billy Corgan has some harsh words for John Mayer, following the singer/songwriter’s quips to Playboy magazine about Jessica Simpson being "sexual napalm."

As far as it pertains to her. I think for any person who has celebrity to sort of drop rocks at somebody elses feet like that — theres things you should really just keep your mouths shut on. Theres things that should just be left alone, Corgan, who is rumored to be dating Simpson, tells Rolling Stone magazine.

The Smashing Pumpkins frontman believes Mayer is trying to self destruct, telling the publication, "Rather than take a year off or change his musical direction some part of it is irritating his soul to the point where hes trying to blow it up. Certainly a talented guy, but empathetically, standing on the sidelines, its hard to watch someone literally burn their career to the ground — speaking as somebody whos done it.

Sugababes - Sweet 7

Sweet 7 doesnt sell the Sugababes as individuals or as a brand.

Lynden David Hall - Medicine 4 My Pain

A fine debut of unpretentious, highly personal soul.

Among the Oak & Ash - Among the Oak & Ash

The duos updating of stirring folk tales is eminently modern.

The Watson Twins - Talking to You, Talking to Me

The pair are expectedly strong of voice, but much here comprises an icy cool listen.

Brad Mehldau - Highway Rider

The pianists latest is a concept album with an odyssey-like subtext.

In some cases, copyrighting music alone is not enough to protect your music, at least not without

March 17th, 2010

In some cases, copyrighting music alone is not enough to protect your music, at least not without going through a lot of hoops to do so. One of the things you can do to protect your copyright is provide notice of copyright. This involves writing a simple statement such as using the word ‘copyright,’ the date, and your name at the bottom of your sheet music or on the case for the recording or the actual recording itself. CDs are the most common means for recording devices today and a notice of copyright can easily be added to the exterior of your CD or on your label if you have one printed.
